When Final Fantasy XII was released first for PS2, the release date of Wii and PS3 was really close. So, fans didn’t get the chance to play this beautiful RPG because most of the people switched to the new platforms. Now the game is back as The Zodiac Age that is full of beautiful graphics, amazing world, and the chance to explore this world with a new approach along with awesome combat. There have been a lot of small changes—mostly to make it better—made in the game to give the players a chance to revisit and explore the world of Ivalice. It is exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Final Fantasy XII Storyline:
The story of the game is depicted upon the struggles of the characters during a time of war and how they have to deal with the complex politics. The roles of the characters are small but the twists, betrayals, and wins make their stories more powerful in the struggle for a larger purpose. The localization adds to its worth because the curiosity to know more the world keeps you reading the reams of the dialogues that you find. You will enjoy talking to every other character in the game because the play-through is more than 60hours long but that totally depends on your gaming style of course.
The story is quite simple and allows you to explore a lot of bigger places right from the start.
You can also wander off in search of loot and rewards but beware of the monsters that can eat you alive. There are secret bosses as well so you have to keep an eye open all the time.
Combat and Characters:
The combat takes place on the map and you can handle one character at a time. The rest of the characters are CPU controlled but the good thing is they don’t behave badly because of the pre-programmed commands—also called gambits—that allow you to direct the behavior of the characters in certain situations. The biggest change in the progression system of this game is that everything is controlled by License Boards that determine all the skills, spells, and weapons that you pick by spending points that you earn. In the original game, any character could pick any skills but there is a distinct purpose for every character in The Zodiac age because of the limited specific skills. You have to be smart and creative while you pick classes for the characters and go on spending your points.
Modes, Visuals, and Additional Changes:
There is a new mode called Trial Mode in which you have to face foes starting from the lowest ranked to the most notorious ones in the game in a series of a hundred consecutive battles. It is open for you to play anytime but if you want to succeed, you have to have some very high-level skills and particular gambits in place. The graphics of the game are just close to HD but it contains all the amazing creatures and beautiful visuals that the original game had. There is new gameplay speed-up function as well to make the easier foes just a piece of cake while looting or wandering. Most of the additions are positive but they could have a done better in the hunts and then map section.
